This project is a transformation of Gothenburg Central Station. The design emerged from an attempt to translate human and vehicle movements into an overarching architectural gesture that defines a new, memorable user experience of a train station.

The proposal features the architecture of wooden ribbons and waves rising and wrapping around the old station buildings. It looks like the architecture is giving a warm embrace to its surroundings. The structures are sculpted to be immersive and engaging, encouraging visitors to move through the spaces and experience curves and shadows. With the seamless transition of architectural elements, the undulating forms give the impression of movement and flow.
As the city densifies, the population will increase.
The Central Station will be too cramped to work well in the future. The transformations are aimed at resolving capacity issues as well as undefined circulation issues. The new design will untangle passenger movements within. The station would have large street-level entrances. The lack of a sufficiently large concourse area would be solved. The size of the terminal is planned to be doubled to increase circulation space. The station’s passenger facilities will be much more generous and vibrant. The new Gothenburg Central Station will be absolutely spacious, dramatic, more welcoming, and even easily navigable.
The proposal wishes to make it possible for people to have a pleasant experience. Gothenburg Central Station will be lovingly transformed. The Vapour Trail is a symbol of a joyful movement. The station will no longer be just a static transportation building but a destination for visitors to remember its beautiful gesture and their journey of happiness.
